Cars in German City Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities stated they were alerted by a man who noticed a car in Hanau marked with reddish fluid

Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Police then found many other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.

A senior representative said the incident made him speechless and had to be resolved promptly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
