2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.
Management Transition Comes After Lukewarm Feedback
Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming early showing last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer updated staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a clearer direction.
The president noted that the developers is now overhauling the project with a revised vision, aiming to satisfy community desires.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
This announcement echoes a similar step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last fall’s the game playtest was informative. It confirmed the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a more distinct brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the criticism to mind and reimagined the title with a renewed goal - one that’s positioned to achieve its ambition to our audience.
Our confidence in this project grows every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Director of the team. Following several months of discussions, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.
His leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming space is extensive, having dedicated the recent years developing and managing some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Background of the Incoming Leader
Brinkman currently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. Brinkman previously worked at major gaming companies in diverse development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Title Information and Vision
The upcoming game was announced in October 2024 together with a public demo. Initially, 31st Union described the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an thrilling advancement on the genre."
